Electricity in Baran
Rajasthan State Electricity Board was constituted on 1st July 1957. Since its constitution, power sector in Rajasthan received priority and power projects mushroomed all over the State. New Power Reforms were implemented in July 2000 by the State Government and RSEB now comprises of five Government companies:- Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUN)
- Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN)
- Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL)
- Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL)
- Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JDVVNL)
8 MW Biomass based Power Plant has been constructed at Kishanganj in Baran District.Another power plant of NTPC is located in Anta. NTPC Anta is a natural gas-fired power station located in Baran district. The gas required for it is sourced from GAIL HBJ Pipeline - South Basin Gas field and the source of water is Chambal River.
However, most of the the villages in Baran district have to remain without electricity. For instance, Kelwada village and many nearby villages of Rajasthan are without proper roads and electricity supply. This makes it difficult for small scale industries to function efficiently.
Drinking Water in Baran
Rajasthan Urban Sector Development Investment Program (RUSDIP) is working for social and economic development in various towns in Rajasthan state. This can be achieved by investments in areas such as water supply, sewerage and sanitation, solid waste management, urban drainage, urban transport and roads etc. Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) are helpful schemes in this direction.
Adequate water supply is required for denizens of Baran for drinking purposes as well as agriculture and industrial purposes. Construction of intake well and WTP including supply, erection, commissioning of equipments, OHSRs (water tanks), transmission lines, rehabilitation of existing WTP (Water Treatment Plants) etc. have been carried out to improve supply of water in Baran.
However, many villages and towns experience scarcity of water. According to a World Bank report, Rajasthan has the least availability of water and the least reliable supply of water. Only 162 out of the state's 222 towns receive water every day!
